INJECTION THERAPY

Cortisone, a type of steroid, is a powerful anti-inflammatory medication. It reduces inflammation and lessens or resolves the pain. Contrary to common beliefs, cortisone does not cause weight gain or muscle bulk. It is injected into an inflamed or irritated region and little goes beyond the injected area.  Cortisone may be used for a wide variety of conditions including tendonitis, arthritis, and sports injuries.  In some joints or tendons, ultrasound or X-ray guidance may be required for precise needle positioning prior to injection.

Symptoms

  • Inflammation
  • Sprain
  • Sports or work injury
  • Arthritis

Diagnostic procedures

If suffering from chronic inflammation from injury or arthritis, seek qualified orthopedic medical treatment. Treatment will encompass a thorough examination with diagnostic procedure(s) such as X-rays and ultrasound imaging, and could include an injection of a local anesthetic and a cortisone preparation to reduce inflammation and pain.
Osteoarthritis of the knee is one of the leading causes of disability in the United States. It develops slowly and the pain worsens over time. Although there is no cure for osteoarthritis, there are many treatment options available to help people manage pain and stay active. People with osteoarthritis have a lower-than-normal concentration of hyaluronic acid in their joints. Hyaluronic acid lubricates between bones and cartilage. Visosupplementation, hyaluronic acid, injected into the arthritic knee joint may improve movement and reduce pain.

Symptoms

  • Knee pain
  • Pain intensifies when bending or walking up stairs
  • Flare-ups of intense pain
  • Tenderness
  • Stiffness
  • Loss of flexibility

If suffering from chronic inflammation from injury or arthritis, seek qualified orthopedic medical treatment.
